Winchester Day Ticket (18th May)

at Gurkha Museum, Peninsular Barracks, Romsey Road, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 8TH

 

Ticket includes coffee on arrival, a buffet lunch and access to the five museums.

 

Programme 1000-1600 

1015 Introduction and presentation on the museums on the Peninsular Barracks site. These are: (1) The Gurkha Museum, (2) The Royal Green Jackets Museum, (3) The Royal Hampshire Regiment Museum, (4) The King’s Royal Hussars Museum and (5) The Adjutant General’s Corps Museum 

1100 A Talk on the Honourable East India Company’s Military Seminary, by Kate Birbeck (author of Addiscombe Military College and the Cadets who Forged an Empire) 

1200 Buffet lunch (during which the Society’s AGM will be held) 

1300 Disperse to visit the five museums plus, if you wish, Winchester Cathedral – which has the numerous Victorian military memorials - and the Boer War memorial in Jury Street. 

 

The Gurkha Museum, in the old Peninsular Barracks site, is a short walk from Winchester mainline railway station, and there is ample parking in the public car parks at Winchester Station and in Tower Street.
